Rainbow Knife

Titanium is a terrible metal for a knife. It's much too soft, meaning it has a distinct inability to hold an edge for any meaningful period of time. However, titanium is also the only metal that was reactive to a specific electric anodizing process available in the studio, a process that creates stunning coloration when applied. My professor, satisfied I understood the reasons my vision was likely a terrible idea, and knowing my penchant for pushing design constraints by this point, gave me the green light anyways out of curiosity for the end result. I cut the shape out of the titanium slab using a jeweler's saw and refined it with a file. I treated the piece before grinding the bevels, leaving the edges silver, and then made the handle using wrapped paracord. The result is indeed a terrible knife, but it's also a beautiful piece and the product of an exciting experiment in pushing the boundaries of form and function.
